Gollancz acquire novelisation of upcoming British science-fiction film with a high-profile cast

The eagerly-anticipated British independent film, ROBOT OVERLORDS, is due for release in early 2015

Gollancz, an imprint of the Orion Publishing Group, is thrilled to announce the acquisition of World Rights to publish the official novelisation. The fully authorised tie-in novel will be written by the scriptwriter and co-creator of the science-fiction movie, Mark Stay.

From Tempo Productions and Pinewood Pictures, ROBOT OVERLORDS stars Gillian Anderson (THE X-FILES), Ben Kingsley (IRON MAN 3) and Callan McAuliffe (THE GREAT GATSBY). The film is co-written by British script-writers Mark Stay and Jon Wright, and produced by Piers Tempest. With breath taking visual effects from the UK team Nvizible and stunning onset locations in the UK Isle of Man and Northern Ireland, ROBOT OVERLORDS is generating buzz across social media platforms months ahead of the film’s release in early 2015.

The film follows a group of teenagers in the wake of Earth’s invasion by Robots, and their regime which confined the human survivors to their homes. No one knows why – or what they want. There is only one clear message: Robots never lie. Nor do they show mercy . . .

Gollancz is delighted to announce the acquisition of World Rights to a two-book space opera from John W. Campbell and Hugo-Award-winning author, Elizabeth Bear.

Combining a unique concept with a compelling plot, Elizabeth Bear’s novels imagine the invention of The White Drive: an easy, nonrelativistic means of travel across unimaginable distances. The gripping story follows salvage operators, Haimey Dz and her partner Connla Kurucz, as they pilot their tiny ship into the scars left by unsuccessful White Transitions, searching for the relics of lost human – and alien – vessels.

Elizabeth Bear is the author of a number of novels and short stories. She has received extraordinary recognition including two Hugo Awards, the John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer (2005), a Sturgeon Award, a Locus Award, an Asimov’s Reader’s Choice award, a Spectrum Award, and an honourable mention for the Philip K. Dick Award.

Simon Spanton, Gollancz Associate Publisher, acquired World Rights, including Audio, to two novels by Elizabeth Bear from Jennifer Jackson at the Donald Maass agency. The first book, ANCESTRAL NIGHT, will be published in late 2016.
